Hasper Kusama Classes: Newsletter Friday 5 th May Dear Parents and Carers, Notices We’ve now covered most of the year 4 maths curriculum in both classes and parents are interested in seeing the particular areas of study this incorporates.

Klee class letter 28.04.2017Friday 28th April Dear Parents Notices • We are collecting your £6 cooking donations. Thank you in advance. • If you have any old magazines or comics we would really appreciate them for our making area. • Do you have a family member who lives in a different country? If you do please could you let us know. We would like to start increasing the children’s knowledge of different cultures and countries. Initially, I am just trying to gain information about what countries we could explore. Thank you in advance. This week lots of the children enjoyed trying to find a sticky substitute to help our poor slimeless snails (FIMO snails – don’t worry) climb the wall. We went on a ‘sticky hunt’ around the classroom and tried using jam, glue and honey to make snail slime. We realised that the bigger snails needed more slime and the smaller snails needed less because they were lighter. We also realised that the syrup was very sticky, the jam was too runny and the glue was great at sticking the snails to the wall if you left it to dry. This activity was great at getting the children to problem solve and make connections. We have also been exploring different textures. Inside we have been mashing ‘clean mud’ (toilet roll, water and soap) squeezing and rolling tapioca pearls. Outside we have been making castles with ‘cloud dough’ (oil and flour). We have also enjoyed some more welly wanging. This time we measured how far we could throw the wellies using the soft bricks. Inside, we have been developing our counting skills and numeral recognition through the book ‘One is a snail, ten is a crab’. We have been counting lots of legs! Thank you to the cooks this week, Lily, Zac, Yameen, Aaron, Uma, Lea, Zoe, for delicious banana bread. Next week we will exploring sounds and how they can be changed. We will also be using the instruments to tap out simple rhythms. Based on the children’s interests we will be thinking about different birds, looking at some superhero Maths games and playing some football skill initial sound games. I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend. Thank you Felicity and Sally
